Exploring DC, part 1 - Tuesday afternoon

Well, I decided not to take my laptop on this trip, rather took the tablet. Which means I'm using the Android app for Blogger. What I've discovered is that I cannot caption photos, nor place them in-between my blog text, nor determine the order they are placed.

So ... I'll split up the DC pics into separate blogs, so I can speak to particular pics. Which means there will be several DC posts!!

Also, it was such a whirlwind trip that I'm doing this on Christmas morning in Massachusetts. Kurt is off spending some quality time with his mom and the boys are outside playing basketball. It's lovely and quiet inside, and I'm looking out a window to a beautiful pond that reflects the scenery around it. Lovely.

But, back to DC I go!!

😀

After arriving at Union Station, we took a taxi to our hotel, unpacked, and headed downstairs to have lunch. I wasn't overly impressed with the food, but we were hungry and wanted to start exploring so didn't take the time to find something better.

We were a mere block from the mall, behind the Air & Space Museum. It was warm and drizzly out. I don't know what a lot of the awesome buildings we saw were, as we didn't get close enough to see. But, I took pics nonetheless. Our goal was to see the Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and the White House. So, we walked along the mall and gawked at the architecture.

We saw the Capitol, under restoration, the Sculpture Garden, an ice skating rink, a white (!) squirrel, the Smithsonian Castle, an art deco Metro sign from Paris, the Smithsonian Institution, and some lovely holiday decorations.

It was cool!! Tune in for part deux, which contains the Monument and the WWII Memorial.
